The Staatsratsgebäude was the building that housed the state council
of the former German Democratic Republic. It was build between 1962 and
1964 and is located in Schloßplatz 1 in the district Mitte.
The building was in use for the council till april 1990. And the next
couple of years in was used irregulary for many different uses. Since
2006 the building is in use by the European School of Management and
Technology (ESMT).
In 2001 Rammstein used this building for the shoot of their Ich Will video.
This video was directed by Jörn Heitmann.
The music video of ‘Ich will’ features the band members engaging in a
bank robbery. The video shows both the robbery and its aftermath, and
moves between these two scenes.
In an interview, Rammstein describe the music video of ‘Ich Will’ as being a demonstration of the media’s obsession with a good story, as well as an illustration of the immortality that can be achieved by those who commit wrongs. There is also a hint of irony stemming from that fact that, in reality, the band is often condemned by both critics and the media.
